From Stuttgart, minute by minute
How far can you get from Stuttgart Hauptbahnhof by train in four hours? The map shows it minute by minute, on local transport only and with all connections, counted to the door of the place you stay.
What you are looking at
The start is Stuttgart Hauptbahnhof on Wednesday, 21 October 2026, departing between 9 and 11 am. Every dot is a stop; where stops lie close together, one dot stands for all of them within a square kilometre. It glows white as soon as you can reach it on local transport alone: regional trains, S-Bahn, U-Bahn, tram and bus, everything Germany's flat-rate Deutschlandticket usually covers. It glows gold when only long-distance trains, boats or mountain railways get you there within four hours, or get you there at least 15 minutes sooner. “All connections” means local transport plus long-distance trains, boats and mountain railways. Demand-responsive buses you have to book in advance and long-distance coaches are not counted.
The numbers count places to stay in our holiday regions that, by our estimate, are no more than 1.5 km on foot from the station. A place counts once the ride and the walk together fit into the time. After four hours that is 901 on local transport only and 1,548 with every connection.
The times next to the cities run to the main station. Those for Pfalz, Bodensee, Allgäu, Mosel, Mittelrhein, Schwarzwald, Chiemsee and Starnberger See & Ammersee run to the door of a place to stay at the region's arrival station.
To keep the map smooth on a phone, every square kilometre with a stop shows one dot with the shortest time inside it. The numbers are worked out beforehand from every single place to stay. Delays and cancellations are not part of the calculation, it follows the timetable.
